About Talk

MariaDB - the innovative OS RDBMS

This is a fresh overview of MariaDB Server, the Open Source relational database management system, by its creator Michael “Monty” Widenius. MariaDB was forked in 2009 off its ancestral MySQL, in turn launched 1995, by the same creator. MariaDB builds upon the same values on which MySQL was created – Stability, Performance, and Ease of Use – and updates them for the database needs of the 2020s.This means vector search for Generative AI, compatibility with Oracle Database for migration off closed source solutions, catalogs for efficient resource management, positioning it as the logical upgrade from MySQL. In this talk Monty will walk you through some of the key reasons for upgrading to MariaDB and share the latest exciting news about the newest innovations in the MariaDB Server development
